It is perhaps the whip, cane, or flogger that first comes to mind for people when they hear the term BDSM. These are simple and effective tools for inflicting pain, which is the essence of BDSM. Or is it? An interesting question. Some people love pain in its physical form, often more than the orgasm itself. Others perceive it as a tool to induce a certain mental arousal. The body resists, and the brain enters a peculiar state of euphoria - more intense than an orgasm, more intense than anything else.
Pain is not just pain
- Whipping with a flogger or whip can be light to medium. For many couples, it is a strong enough experience to create the right atmosphere and strengthen their mutual relationship.
- True sadomasochists often practice extreme whippings that draw blood and leave scars and bruises for several weeks. Such a session can greatly affect the psyche, with the goal being a positive impact.
- We can distinguish pain not only as small and large but also as wanted and unwanted. Even the toughest masochist won't get aroused by a tooth extraction or a compound fracture of the shinbone.
Successful whipping
Successful whipping is a harmony of many circumstances that must be in precise balance. Without it, it will never work!
- Trust - partners should have full trust and a certain affection for each other. You definitely won't experience any euphoria with a person you dislike.
- Experience - just as you can't learn to play a musical instrument in a week, you can't handle a hard whipping in a week. Neither giving nor receiving.
- Mood - similar to food, sometimes you crave it, and sometimes you don't. There's nothing you can do about it.
- Environment - some people like a medieval torture chamber or a well-equipped S/M studio, others a luxury hotel. The environment has a significant impact on the overall experience. Admit it, crying children or a cursing mother-in-law in the next room won't add to the atmosphere.
- Pain threshold - everyone has it differently, and everyone has their limits. Although it can be pushed, it will never completely disappear. That's why partners should know and respect these limits. Not only to avoid crossing them but also to know how to approach them correctly.
Just as the environment plays a role, so does what is used for whipping. Sure, you can use a bare hand, a freshly broken stick, or a flat tire tube. However, if you have even a little aesthetic sense, you will definitely prefer professional BDSM tools. They look incomparably better and give the S/M lesson the proper level.
Whips and canes
Whips and canes cause sharp, stinging pain and leave red stripes on the skin. With more intensity, they can break the skin's structure to the point of bleeding. However, not everyone wants to have bloody welts immediately. With gentle handling, the skin only warms slightly, and after a few minutes, there will be no trace left. A whip is also a captivating aesthetic accessory, and a dominatrix holding it in her hand embodies authority without even using it.
Floggers
Floggers with their strands act similarly, but because there are many at once, they are felt more broadly and warm the whipped area much faster. The strands also bend along the body, so they have a longer impact area. The crucial criterion for the strands is the material they are made of.
- Most commonly, it's hard leather (split leather). It proudly holds its name and stings nicely. Such floggers are some of the most painful.
- Soft leather (nappa). At first glance, they look similar, but nappa is lightweight, so the impact is never as forceful. They are used, for example, in S/M films because they can be used to whip with full force, but the pain isn't as drastic. In the film, it looks rough, but the actors don't actually suffer as much. An experienced eye, however, will notice that the strands don't leave marks on the skin, indicating it's a film trick.
- Round rubber bristles - solid, uniform rubber cords with a diameter of 3 - 4 mm. Probably the biggest massacre. Rubber is relatively heavy, and such thick bristles are even rougher than split leather. With these, it really hurts.
- Latex strands - usually in the classic thickness of 0.4 - 0.6 mm and width of 5 - 10 mm. With these, no matter how hard you try, it simply won't hurt. Similar to soft leather, latex floggers are also used in films. They are also a great tip for beginners. You set the right BDSM atmosphere, but you don't have to worry about pain.
What do we recommend? Whatever suits you :-) Okay, to summarize, leather is classic. And if leather, then preferably split leather. Everyone can control the strength of the blow, so it's okay for beginners and advanced users. Split leather is also low maintenance compared to soft leather, which dries out faster. Rubber and latex have a huge advantage in hygiene. Before and after the action, you simply rinse them with warm water or wipe them with a disinfectant. Those who want to feel real pain will choose round rubber bristles, and those who want to tickle with floggers will choose flat latex strands.
Flat paddles
A paddle stings at first, but after a while, when the skin is bloodied, it causes more of a dull pain. It doesn't leave sharp scars. It warms the skin more and creates a broad red mark. With high intensity, bloody spots can appear even after a paddle, but otherwise, it leaves more dark bruises. A paddle can be latex or leather.
- Latex is, like with floggers, more suitable for beginners because it doesn't hurt as much. The advantage again is in cleaning and disinfection.
- Leather has much more intensity and can be quite tormenting.
For BDSM purposes, we definitely recommend leather. Latex is more suitable from an aesthetic point of view, especially if you want unconventional colors and a less painful impact.
Braided whip, karabash, bullwhip
Also worth mentioning is the braided whip. In the usual BDSM assortment, you don't often come across it because handling it requires a certain amount of skill and experience. Yes, you can use it similarly to floggers and swing it clumsily from left to right. But then, instead of the slave, you might just whip yourself and even cause damage around you. Especially with a multi-meter bullwhip. However, there are dominatrices and dominants who truly master long whips. Falling into their hands is then a real hell. The bullwhip is named so because it is meant for "bulls"! And if it can tame a wild bull...
Whipping, flogging, and punishing can be done in various ways
For it to bring pleasure and enjoyment to both sides, it is necessary to know your boundaries and desires and respect them under all circumstances. BDSM is not about mindless beating. It is a very complex art, stemming from the human mind. Never forget that!
