• Plastic locks are for single use only. You close it by snapping it shut, you open it by cutting and destroying the lock. However, they have certain advantages. They are lighter and therefore far more comfortable. They are not affected by water. In an emergency, they can be easily cut off. And as a bonus, it won't be detected by a metal detector.
