Latex and rubber cuffs, harnesses, and straps (latex bondage)
When the terms BDSM and bondage are mentioned, most people usually think of basic tools, such as gags or leather cuffs. True, leather has always been a royal material for BDSM, but it's not the only one and in some cases, it's not the most ideal.
- Latex is a natural sap from the rubber tree, which hardens relatively quickly in the air. For our purposes, it hardens in a factory under precisely set conditions and supervision. However, it is still a natural material.
- Rubber is the same sap mixed with other substances and then goes through the vulcanization process. This achieves different properties of rubber, such as hardness, elasticity, mechanical and thermal resistance, or resistance to UV radiation.
In the case of cuffs and straps, we can simplify it by saying that rubber is stronger, harder, and less elastic compared to latex.
Flexibility and Strength
For cuffs, straps, and harnesses, we want zero flexibility and at the same time, we need the greatest possible strength. Both rubber and latex straps perfectly meet these properties.
- Latex cuffs are made from 3 layers (latex - fabric - latex). The top and bottom layers overlap and are glued together at the edges. The fabric does not reach all the way to the edges, is not visible, and discreetly ensures durability and strength.
- Rubber cuffs are usually made from 3 mm thick rubber, which already has a network of reinforcing fibers embedded in it from production. These again ensure absolutely zero flexibility and high material strength. The fibers are in this case everywhere inside the rubber and extend to the edges, where they are slightly visible. However, they do not disrupt the appearance of the cuffs.
Why cuffs made of latex and rubber?
- The main advantage is hygiene. You can soak them in sweat as long as you want and simply rinsing with water is enough for cleaning. Compared to leather, this is an undeniable advantage.
- Heavy Rubber. Anyone who loves latex and bondage, wears several layers that cover every inch of the body airtight, and wants to be bound, certainly doesn't want to use any other material than rubber or latex again.
The strength of rubber cuffs is comparable to leather ones, they are much easier to clean than leather, and for latex enthusiasts, it's simply the obvious choice.
